It is being reported that the Fort Hood gunman had links to Al Qaeda.

Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the gunman responsible for the Fort Hood Texas Army Base massacre had tried to make contact with Anwar al Awlaki, a radical mosque leader who runs an anti-American website that promotes terrorism and Jihad.

Apparently Hasan has been watched closely by the American government for the past couple of months due to his behavior.  However, clearly, he was not watched closely enough, and is responsible for the death of 13 Americans.

This is outrageous that this tragedy could have occurred on American soil, on one of the largest Army bases in the world.   Our soldiers are in enough danger as it is abroad, they should be able to feel safe and taken care of in America.  If the government knew that Hasan was trying to make connections with Al Qaeda, why wasn’t this taken care of before things got so out of control? How could they have let this happen?

This is so heart breaking.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of those who were killed or injured in this massacre, or who lost a friend or family member.
